Live Webinar: Why Michigan needs a septic code.

Michigan is the only state in the nation without uniform standards for septic systems — and it’s harming our waters. Failing septic systems release billions of gallons of untreated sewage each year, contaminating the groundwater, lakes, and streams that supply drinking water across the state.

On March 6, 2026, join Flow Water Advocates and a panel of leaders, including state Senator Sam Singh, for a conversation about the urgent need and historic opportunity to establish a statewide septic code that protects public health and safeguards fresh water.

Last month, Sen. Sam Singh (D-28) introduced legislation to establish the state’s first-ever comprehensive framework for the oversight and maintenance of onsite wastewater treatment systems, also known as septic systems. The legislation (SB 771) will modernize Michigan’s outdated approach to septic system oversight, and protect the health of communities and the state’s lakes, rivers, and groundwater.
